Healthcare

The Issue:

As an ER doc, I have taken care of so many members of our communities who fell through the cracks of our broken health care system – the elderly woman who could not get her screenings and presented with advanced cancer, the father who lost his job and insurance and could only get care in the ER, the teenager with depression and isolation from virtual school who waited days in the ER for an inpatient psychiatric bed, and the young man suffering from opioid addiction desperate for help.

I believe we need to make our healthcare system more accessible and affordable, enacting medical debt relief, reducing copayments and deductibles so that insurance actually works for families, keeping our parents and grandparents independent and in their homes, expanding resources for treatment of addiction and mental illness, and ensuring that our ERs will be able to care for all of us in times of need.
